BENEFITS OF SHORT TERM HEALTH PLANS
BENEFITS OF SHORT TERM HEALTH PLANS
Short Term Health Plans are not for everyone. However, if you find yourself between jobs and realize how utterly over-priced COBRA is, then Short Term Medical Plans might be a good fit for you. Short Term Health Plans are extremely affordable and you can customize your deductible from $1,000 - $10,000 to best fit your needs. These plans are not compliant with the ACA/Obama-Care, but until they change the law again, they might be a good option for those who cannot afford a Health Plan through the exchange and for those younger adults in good-excellent health.
HOW LONG IS THE COVERAGE PERIOD
Short Term Medical Plans can be contracted with for anywhere from a month to a year and most can be renewed for two additional years.
IS THERE A WAITING PERIOD?
Most plans are very affordable, customizable, and they can be in effect the next day.
WHAT ABOUT PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS
The majority of Short Term Health Plans for individuals do not include coverage for Pre-Existing conditions, but several due, up to a certain dollar amount .
IS MATERNITY CARE COVERED?
No, there is no coverage for Maternity or Pre-Natal care at all.
DO SHORT TERM PLANS COVER PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS?
Some Short Term Medical Plans do have Prescription coverage available. However, I think most people are better off using GOOD RX, Single Care or other Pharmacy Discount Cards/Apps as they will usually have lower prices than the Short Term Medical Prescription Rates and, especially because their is no deductible using those cards.

Short Term Health Insurance
Major medical insurance isn't always an option for some.
If you've missed the deadline for open enrollment, for example, or you just can't afford the premiums and deductibles that come with a traditional health insurance policy, then short term coverage might be a good alternative for you. As the name implies, short term health insurance – abbreviated to STHPs for short-term health plans – is temporary medical coverage. These plans are ideal for people in transition, whether you've changed jobs and need something to fill the gap between employer-sponsored coverage, you've just graduated college or been dropped from your parents' plan, or you've retired early but don't qualify for Medicare yet.

If you don’t have health insurance or are between plans, take a look at Interim Coverage from Independence American Insurance Company, a member of The IHC Group. Interim means temporary, so it’s sometimes called short-term coverage or short-term medical.
Keep in mind that Interim Coverage isn’t the same as having an annual health insurance plan under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). It does, however, offer you protection against unforeseen medical expenses such as accidents or hospitalization, as long as it's not from a pre-existing condition. Check out the examples below to see if this might be a solution for you.
